Haley Mitander

Haley is Northern Tutchone, a citizen of the Selkirk First Nation, located in central Yukon in the community of Pelly Crossing. She is of the Crow moiety, born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon, and currently resides there. Her parents are Pat Mitander from Barhead, Alberta and Victor Mitander from Dawson City, Yukon. Her mother is Scotish, Irish decent and her father is Northern Tutchone, Swedish decent. She is currently working on a Bachelor of Arts of Degree in Indigenous Governance, at Yukon College (soon to be University!). Haley has been working with Yukon College for three years, as a Facilitator in the First Nations Initiatives office. She was seconded from Government of Yukon, Department of Education to support First Nations in their progression towards Self-Determination. Being the daughter of one of the Chief Negotiators of the Umbrella Final Agreement, she is able to utilize the knowledge of many past and present leaders for guidance. Our office works under the direction of the President’s Advisory Committee on First Nations Initiatives (PACFNI), making sure First Nations views, culture, and history is integrated throughout the institution. Haley’s role within the First Nations Initiatives office contributes to the Indigenization direction of the institution.
