We are Listening: Social Media In Action (E/SI)

April 25, 2022 | 4:00 - 5:00

Location: Room 611
Track: Thought Forum

In this presentation, the team at Northern College, Susan Hunter, Director of Marketing, Communications, and External Relations, and Christina Andrews, Social Media Liaison, speak to how they responded to the “temperature” of their audiences during the pandemic.

Since the beginning of Covid, social media has played a significant role to disseminate information, improve trust, solidarity and build connections with students. Now, more than ever, digital media and technology has become an important part of our lives and it is transforming post-secondary organizations’ ability to listen to our audience, most importantly, our (students) in a profound way.

In October of 2021, the College received a message from a student who posted on Facebook about not wanting to pay for parking as a mother of young children who commuted to class. As a result, the College’s Senior Management Team replied immediately, suspending all parking fees for students, employees, and visitors for the academic year. Listen in on how this College, located in Northern Canada rebrands as Canada’s Kindest College, resulting in double digit increases in applicants in a sector that has been trending downwards.
