The Simple Idea That Wasn’t: Building Inclusion Through Employee Core Competency Training (E)

May 5, 2020 | 13:30 - 14:30

Location: 511 DEF
Track: Wiring for Student Success

In 2009 Yukon College officially embarked on a core competency project when a working group was formed to develop a plan for implementation of a core competency requirement for Yukon College (YC) students. The goal was to have all YC graduates leave with an understanding and appreciation of Yukon First Nations – history, culture, contemporary issues and the unique role they play in the territory. _x000D_
The department of First Nations Initiatives (FNI) began working with the President’s Advisory Committee on First Nations Initiatives (PACFNI) – an advisory group with representation from 14 Yukon First Nations and 3 surrounding First Nations – to develop a face-to-face workshop that would cover the topics and issues that PACFNI felt it was important to include. They eventually narrowed down the focus to fall under 6 key pillars – history, residential school, heritage and culture, worldviews, self-government, and contemporary issues. Participants will learn about the program and best practices will be shared._x000D_
