Sustainability in Focus (E/SI)

April 27, 2022 | 10:00 - 11:00

Location: Room 106/107
Track: Mapping Sustainability

This session will highlight how Humber College’s International Development Institute (IDI) expanded their leadership in contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in various sectors, including community and student engagement and curriculum development. By emphasizing key mindsets such as sustainability, interconnection, and multiple diverse perspectives, the IDI highlights the SDGs’ importance and relevance to sectors beyond those traditionally and directly linked to the SDGs.

The IDI in collaboration with the Faculty of Media and Creative Arts have used the SDGs as a framework to embed sustainability principles and competency development in curricula. The Media for Social Change course specifically looks at the media’s role in society and creativity’s role in justice seeking, examining socially engaged media practice and the impact of media for change. Through this case study, this session will examine how the SDGs was used as a framework to bridge the awareness of global issues with current digital media practice. It will explore how student’s awareness of the SDGs transformed their understanding of global issues and their influence as media producers.
