Sustainability as a site of community engagement: “Increasing the delivery of environmental and sustainability education across curriculum, campus and community-outreach programmes” at Vanier College (E/SI)

May 4, 2020 | 14:00 - 15:00

Location: 513 DEF
Track: Embodying Sustainability

This session addresses the idea of collective intelligence through the case example of Vanier College, an institution which, according to Environnement Jeunesse (Québec), “in just a few months made giant strides” forward in their pursuit of sustainability (Environnement Jeunesse, 2019). Over the course of a single semester, Vanier went from being a Cégep where sustainability was largely at the background of college life to being the only Montreal Cégep signatory of the U.N. SDG Accord Climate Letter, presented at COP25 in December 2019. The presenters will discuss this trajectory, offering key insights and strategies on how to bring sustainability to the forefront of college and institutional life through community-building practices. Their presentation charts the shift in paradigm at Vanier from a siloed approach to sustainability to a more integrative, community-oriented set of practices.
