Stream Opening – Collective Intelligence and Intelligent Connections: Presidential Perspectives on Applied Research from Coast to Coast to Coast (E/SI)

May 4, 2020 | 08:15 - 09:15

Location: 513 ABC
Track: Driving Innovation

Scaffolding collective intelligence and collaborative insights, fostering student engagement in learning, developing critical problem-solving skills, preparing for twenty-first century jobs, building relationships with employers and community, serving the needs of an everchanging society; these are a few of the benefits applied research can bring to Canadian colleges.

Building, promoting, and sustaining a culture of innovation around applied research can be challenging, but with the right leadership, the right vision, and the right kind of relationships with community and context, colleges can play an important role in creating collective intelligence and intelligent connections. This session provides insights from three campus leaders, each committed to promoting and supporting a culture of applied research at colleges serving very different economic and social communities.
