Skills-based Approach to Professional Behaviour (E/SI)

May 7, 2019 | 13:45 - 14:45

Location: Peller C
Track: Leading Success

At CCNB (Community College of New Brunswick), Dieppe Campus, we are establishing partnerships with employers looking for employee groups. We teach with a meaningful approach using simulations and actual documents from the industry.

The professor becomes a guide for the students who learn to be aware of their skills, including self-control, empathy, the art of paying attention to others, conflict-resolution, and developing a sense of cooperation. The syllabus is replaced by a matrix of educational activities that the professor and students plan and develop together. The students no longer receive grades but allow the professor to observe their acquisition process of the specific skills. Employers receive an intern who is ready to become an employee and already oriented about the company’s work culture.

This approach is carefully adapted to today’s reality in that:

• Employers no longer recruit candidates but rather welcomes employees who are specifically trained to work at their company.
• Students are no longer educated on a knowledge basis but rather, given the skills necessary to be hired as soon as they graduate.
• The CCNB simultaneously responds to the needs of its students and those of employers, allowing them to be involved in the training process.
