Organic Farming, a Fad or a New Model? Cégep de Victoriaville’s Response (F/SI)

May 7, 2019 | 15:30 - 16:15

Location: Peller C
Track: Leading Success

Organic farming is more than just a fad. Over time, producing and consuming organic food has become a serious movement and an indispensable reality.

For several decades, Cégep de Victoriaville has been a leading actor in Quebec in terms of education, research, and technology transfer in organic farming. The Cégep offers the only training program in organic fruit and vegetable production, as well as urban farming, in Quebec and the number of students in the program has tripled in recent years. We have recently acquired an impressive $19 million organic agricultural complex that will allow us to develop and align our training and research activities even further.

The presence of teachers, researchers, students, businesses and other participants at our Institut National en Agriculture Biologique (national institute for organic agriculture) creates a unique ecosystem that behaves like a virtuous cycle. It helps improve education, lifelong learning, research, technology transfer, and business services. Ultimately, all this benefits the earth and therefore all of us.
