Lines of action and enquiry for accessible and inclusive environments (F/SI)

May 4, 2020 | 11:15 - 12:15

Location: 512 A-G
Track: Wiring for Student Success

While we may hear about inclusion all over the place, it is easier to talk about it than it is to lay down concrete actions that will bring life to the concept in our institutions. How can we encourage everyone’s participation in our respective environments (board of directors, committees, associations, etc.)? How can we make it easier for members of the under-represented groups we work with to succeed?

Building representative and inclusive bodies is a long-term endeavour that does not happen overnight and requires innovative leadership. Striving for excellence also means being able to create accessible spaces while being aware of the obstacles to participation some people face. It is critical to understand our social positions to make a change and ensure that the voices of all key players around us are heard. During this presentation, come discover the notions of power, privilege and inclusion and obtain some tangible tools to help support new dynamics in your institutions.
