Leadership in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion with Colleges participating in the Dimensions Program (E/SI)

April 28, 2021 | 12:00 - 12:45

Track: Governing Excellence

Policies and practices that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) have been shown to improve access to the largest pool of qualified individuals, strengthen organizations and increase the overall excellence of research. Dimensions: Equity, diversity and inclusion Canada is an initiative of the three federal granting agencies, inviting post-secondary institutions to take part in a transformation to increase EDI within the research ecosystem. It addresses obstacles faced by underrepresented or disadvantaged groups including, but not limited to, women, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities/racialized groups, and members of LGBTQ2+ communities.

In its pilot phase, the program consists of a cohort of 17 institutions and 23 affiliates, which are taking an active role in co-developing the program design and delivery. Representatives from the colleges will share their institutions’ motivations in participating in the program, their experiences establishing EDI measures in their institutions and the preliminary lessons learned in implementing EDI initiatives. They also will discuss how the Dimensions program is providing them the leverage needed to further advance their EDI efforts and how they are influencing the development of the Dimensions program.
