ISA and Ali: Artificial intelligence at the service of educational perseverance (F/SI)

Detect students at risk of dropping out earlier, intervene quickly with targeted students and continuously support the entire student population, these are the three main areas of educational perseverance and the major challenge that the Cégep de Chicoutimi and the Collège de Rimouski have sought to meet, using artificial intelligence (AI). It is therefore in partnership with Optania, a firm specializing in educational AI in Quebec, that the ISA academic monitoring interface and the Ali accompanying robot were created.
WSIT identifies students who are at risk of failure or abandonment from admission and in real time. Thus allowing the college’s stakeholders to act upstream to guide students on the path to graduation.
Ali is an app that features a benevolent conversational robot. It is intended to support students in their difficulties of both psychosocial nature and learning, throughout the college journey.
The development of these tools was part of a bold research project aimed at deploying a concrete model of the integration of artificial intelligence for educational perseverance in higher education settings.
Although very recent, these technological innovations are now producing very concrete results and are already in the process of being deployed in six Quebec college institutions.
