Integrating the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals into Strategic Sustainability Plans (E/SI)

May 5, 2020 | 11:30 - 12:30

Location: 513 DEF
Track: Embodying Sustainability

Postsecondary institutions play a key role in addressing global challenges. As hubs for education, research, and community involvement, academic institutions can facilitate long-lasting effects and societal change. To address the global challenges we face, the United Nations (UN) developed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Much of the implementation of this desired, sustainable change comes from the development of Strategic Sustainability Plans.

The presenter will share how higher education institutions can incorporate these Sustainable Development Goals into their own Strategic Sustainability Plans. He will illustrate how to fulfill both The Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System™ (STARS®) and the UN SDGs simultaneously by developing measurable Key Performance Indicators, tracking, and then communicating them. TRU became the first Institution in Canada to earn a Platinum rating and currently has the highest ranking in the world.
