Innovating Workforce Development: Tip of the Iceberg (E/SI)
April 27, 2021 | 3:15 - 4:00Track: Governing Excellence
Like the iconic iceberg, there’s more than the eye can see when it comes to the 20 research projects funded to date by the NL Workforce Innovation Centre’s (NLWIC) at College of the North Atlantic (CNA) and to the workforce innovators who are the research proponents moving them forward.
The Innovating NL Workforce Development: Tip of the Iceberg panel will showcase Newfoundland and Labrador as a testbed of innovation in workforce development, starting with an overview and update by Director Sharon McLennon on NLWIC’s work related to innovative models, practices and people. Chelsey MacNeill, lead researcher and project lead of one of 20 research projects funded by NLWIC being implemented by research proponent, Choices for Youth (CFY), will then take Session attendees “below the surface” of Applied Research on Supportive Training, Social Enterprise
and Employment First Practices for the Future of NL project. What triggered the idea? What are some key early learnings and unintended wins from their workforce innovation research? Chelsey will explore the impact on employability and employment on youth, a key group under-represented in the labour market, on the CFY organization, and on the future of NL’s workforce and economic recovery.
The labour market challenges we face today require innovative thinking and doing when it comes to developing our talent pipeline with the right skills at the right time and in the right place, now and in the future. Innovation in workforce development, particularly for under-represented groups, is an idea whose time has come.
