Hacking the Schedule to Enable Authentic Project-Based Learning (E/SI)

May 5, 2020 | 13:30 - 14:30

Location: 511 ABC
Track: Hacking Education

From its inception in 1969, Holland College has emphasized competency-based education (CBE) with skill acquisition as its primary focus. CBE is a well-established model in many of the trades training programs where specific skills must be mastered. Biotechnology has matured from an academic and research field to a set of tools and skills used in both advanced research and industrial production. The Bioscience Technology program was created in 2006 without the constraints of traditional science departments and conventional academic structures of lecture and lab periods, enabling its development to be modeled on the skill-training methods employed by more traditional trades programs.

This session will explore challenges and best practices.
