Gender Mainstreaming in KEFEP – Moving toward Sustainable Development Goal #5 – Gender Equality and Engaging Industry – One Institutions’ Experience (E/SI)

May 7, 2019 | 11:00 - 12:00

Location: Peller D
Track: Going Global

According to the Kenyan Education for Employment Program Gender guiding documents, KEFEP is committed to a gender equality strategy focusing on the integration of perspectives across all program areas. This includes gender-sensitive teacher training and pedagogy, adaptation of training materials to promote equal participation of women and men, curriculum review, training delivery and gender mainstreaming. In keeping with Sustainable Development Goal #5, Gender Equality (GE) and the empowerment of all, GE is essential to expand economic growth, promote social development and enhance business opportunity. CICan’s Canadian and Kenyan partners have worked diligently to achieve the goals set out in institutional Gender Action Plans. In October 2018, The Sigalagala National Polytechnic (TSNP) conducted their first Gender Mainstreaming Industry Engagement focus group. The group, run by the committee chairs, solicited industry-specific feedback on gender mainstreaming and equality issues in the workplace. This case-study workshop focuses on the results of the TSNP industry focus group. GE challenges and opportunities related to the relationship between education and industry is discussed.
