Gender Diversity: An Innovative Discussion (E)

May 7, 2019 | 09:45 - 10:30

Location: 221
Track: Student Success

This workshop will encourage participants to probe deeper into their feelings about members of the LGBTQIAP2S+ community and discuss issues in a safe space. Issues discussed during the workshop will include: Transgender umbrella of identities, safe spaces and what makes a space safe, what it means to be a true ally, and how to bridge the gap between the allies and the LGBTQIAP2S+ community. Participants will first network and get to know each other to build a firm foundation of trust and comfort before delving into a larger group discussion. Participants will not only gain a better understanding of gender expression but also collectively form a vision to bring back to their respective institutions to continue leading through awareness and influence.

The goal of the workshop is to illuminate all corners of underlying beliefs and bridge the gap that separates all gender expressions. Participants will learn how to foster and cultivate ideas about creating a more inclusive campus atmosphere by solidifying relationships – especially with allies in the school. They will also have the chance to hear about various successes and challenges that other institutions have faced.
