First Nation Self-Determination Workshops (E/SI)

May 4, 2020 | 09:30 - 10:30

Location: 512 A-G
Track: Wiring for Student Success

Yukon College seeks guidance from its high-profile advisory committee called the President’s Advisory Committee on First Nations Initiatives (PACFNI). This committee provides strategic direction and “plays an important role by assisting Yukon College in its goal to increase the effectiveness of programs and services offered, with the ultimate goal being the success of all Yukon College students. From the direction of PACFNI, they were able to identify the need to create short term flexible training outside of accredited programming. Yukon College created fifteen self-determination workshops in full partnership with First Nation Governments, and the Government of Yukon, to build capacity in order to implement their modern-day treaties. They are flexible and can be tailored to the First Nation’s specific circumstances in which the program is delivered. This allows the program to be adaptable and recognizes the autonomy they identified through their request. Participants will have an opportunity to learn more about the program.
