“The world has one decade left to meet and realize the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), 17 calls to action to create an equitable, peaceful and prosperous planet through global partnerships. Students can be a powerful tool for change while providing them with work-integrated learning opportunities that enhance their learning and practical skills.
Durham College (DC), Students Offering Support (SOS), and Guatemalan-based NGOs are fusing scholarly and practitioner perspectives to advance the SDGs through a series of curriculum-linked ‘Faculty Led Classrooms Abroad’ (FLCAs). The collaboration has supported DC students to exchange knowledge from their fields of study with Guatemalan youth and youth allies, complementing SOS’ long-term initiatives to advance SDG #4: Quality Education. This presentation is aimed at faculty and administrators interested in taking on complex projects that challenge their students as both learners and global citizens.
