College and Community Connections through Sustainability Planning: SDGs at the intersection of Key Partnerships! (E/SI)

May 4, 2020 | 11:15 - 12:15

Location: 513 DEF
Track: Embodying Sustainability

In 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all, were adopted around the world. Using quantitative interconnected targets and indicators, the 17 Global Goals represent a universal call to action on social, environmental and economic problems. Agenda 2030 as it is known, offers a unique opportunity for post-secondary institutions to lead transformative change through comprehensive sustainability planning that incorporates their community stakeholders and integrates with community sustainability plans. The UN Sustainable Development Goals provide a common language at the point of intersection between colleges and their communities. Panelists will share ways in which the SDGs have been incorporated into college sustainability plans and how colleges are supporting sustainability planning in their communities by partnering with municipalities, universities, NGOs and civil society. These partnerships, in turn, provide unprecedented experiential learning opportunities for students in support of the SDGs.
