May 4, 2020 | 11:15 - 12:15

Location: 511 ABC
Track: Hacking Education

As post secondary institutions strive to promote 21st century skills, many colleges are pushing to adopt elements of applied research into the curriculum. While applied research is a central part of many vocational programs, it proves difficult to integrate into liberal arts programs. This presentation describes an experimental applied research course in the liberal arts, General Education (GenEd) curriculum. Students participated in field research and incorporated their findings into interdisciplinary projects. Data was also shared with students across programs to add an element of interdisciplinary collaboration. Lessons learned from this project and potential applications across subjects will be discussed.
